Reading passage
Take the provided reading time before you play the listening passage.
Narrator:Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
Student 1:Hey Dan, what do you think of this letter? Do you think it would... Student 2: Help? Oh, definitely. The problem is that student assistants often have other jobs to earn money, so those always take priority.
Student 1:What do you mean?
Student 2:Well, one of my friends worked as a production assistant for a show last year. He missed a rehearsal one night because his boss at his other job told him he had to stay late. He didn't have a choice. Student 1: Hmm. So if he had been paid for the show...
Student 2:Then he wouldn't have needed the other job. Helping with the play would have been his main responsibility.
Student 1:I guess. That makes sense. But what about the training? Is that really necessary? Student 2: Absolutely. The equipment assistants use now is much more complicated than it used to be. You really need proper training to avoid mistakes.
Student 1:Yeah, especially during the performance.
Student 2:Having someone experienced show them step by step how to operate the latest equipment would not only improve their skills but also make the plays run much better.
