Library to Digitize Books
Some books in the university library are rarely used. Starting next semester, any book that has not been checked out in the last five years will be removed from the shelves. According to the head librarian, the purpose of this change is to free up space for new books the library expects to receive. The removed books will be digitized-the pages will be scanned and made available online through the library's website. Students who need these books for any reason will be able to read the full text easily on a computer.

Narrator:Now listen to two students discussing the article.
Man:Did you see this article about the library?
Woman:Yeah, and honestly, I think it's about time they did something like that.
Man:Oh yeah?
Woman:Yeah. I worked at the library last year. Man: Right, I remember-you were shelving books, right?
Woman:Exactly. And the shelves were getting really crowded, completely packed. The librarians complained about it a lot.
Man:So it was actually a problem?
Woman:Definitely. There were piles of new books stacked in some of the librarians' offices-books the university had bought. But there wasn't enough shelf space, so they couldn't put them out right away. Kind of a shame, because someone could have used them.
Man:Then this seems like a practical move.
Woman:It is. And giving us online access is great. I think students will actually find these books easier to use now. You won't have to go to the library or carry anything around. You can just sit in your dorm and read.
Man:That's true.
Woman:Honestly, I wish they'd do this with all the books. It'd make things a lot easier. Man: Maybe someday.
