Rewilding may support biodiversity and cooling, but residents can also worry about access, allergens, pests, and neglected appearance. Should cities allow more unused land to become rewilded habitat?

Rewilding selected sites gives insects and birds connected habitat while reducing mowing, irrigation, and heat. Paths and clear borders can show that an area is intentionally managed rather than abandoned. This is how this planet used to look like before modernization took over.

Cities should prioritize spaces residents can safely use, especially in neighborhoods with few parks. Habitat projects need maintenance, public consultation, and measurable benefits instead of assuming that any overgrown lot is environmentally successful.
