Writing Ability contains three objective subtests. English Rhino uses a pacing guide inside the current combined candidate testing time; POST does not publish separate official subtest times.
1Clarity
Choose the clearer of two sentences. Items focus on modification, vague or indefinite references, run-ons, and sentence fragments.
2Vocabulary
Read one sentence and choose the option closest in meaning to the underlined word. Terms are common in law-enforcement work but require no specialized training knowledge.
3Spelling
Complete each sentence by choosing the correctly spelled form of the missing word.
Current PELLETB form effective January 1, 2025. The former CLOZE subtest is not included.
